Current position: Data Scientist: Big Data / High Performance Technical Consultant at SHARCNET, this position is supported by Compute Ontario and Compute Canada. I use the current Big Data tools to analyse data, such as Spark and Hive.
Office: 122 - Western Science Building
Email:jnandez@sharcnet.ca
Phone: +1-519-661-2111 ext. 81229
Address: The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, N6A 5B7
Education: I did my B.Sc. at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where I major in applied math, and I have minor in computing science. My B.Sc.'s thesis was about 3D visualization, by means of Amira and Fluent, of metallurgical tanks in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. I did my M.Sc. at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where my thesis was based on 2D SPH simulations of the gas surrounding a black hole. The idea was to get the oscillation of the gas, hence, I developed a Fast Fourier Transfer code that code get the peak frequency of the gas; this frequency was compared with observations. I did my Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Alberta. My Ph.D's thesis was about 3D SPH interactions (I used StarSmasher which used MPI for hydrodynamics and CUDA for gravity) between 2 stars (dynamical collision or common envelope). I developed 3D and 2D to analyse the interactions, I also developed 3D/2D visualization tools for a comprehensive way to look at the interactions (see my movies). I also developed mathematical and physical tools that can be used to identify a CEE. My codes were mainly developed in C++ and Fortran with OpenMP in order to solve the interactions faster.
Research Interest: Common envelope events, compact binary formation, stellar mergers, double white dwarf formation, Low mass X-ray binaries, Ultra compact X-ray binary formation, blue Stragglers.
